چکیده

Abstract From 1998 to the present, Chinese government has implemented numerous large-scale ecological programs restore ecosystems and improve environmental protection in agro-pastoral ecotone of Northern China (APENC). However, it remains unclear how vegetation restoration modulates intraregional moisture cycles changes regional water balance. To fill this gap, we first investigated variation precipitation (P) from Meteorological Forcing Dataset evapotranspiration (ET) estimated using Priestly-Taylor Jet Propulsion Laboratory model under two scenarios: dynamic (DV) no (no-DV). We then used recycling analyze ratio (PRR). Finally, examined change cycle APENC. Results indicate P increased at an average rate 4.42 mm yr -2 1995 2015. ET with DV exhibited a significant increase 1.57, 3.58, 1.53, 1.84 four subregions, respectively, compared no-DV, annual mean PRR values were 10.15%, 9.30%, 11.01%, 12.76% increasing trends found APENC during 1995-2015. Further analysis shows that does not local directly, but indirect effect by enhancing process produce more PRR. Our findings show have positive on precipitation.

Environmental Change in the Agro-Pastoral Transitional Zone, Northern China: Patterns, Drivers, and Implications.

Chengde city is located in the agro-pastoral transitional zone in northern China near the capital city of Beijing, which has experienced large-scale ecological construction in the past three decades. This study quantitatively assessed the environmental changes in Chengde through observation records of water resources, water environment, atmospheric environment, and vegetation activity and inves...

Carbon isotopes of C3 herbs correlate with temperature on removing the influence of precipitation across a temperature transect in the agro‐pastoral ecotone of northern China

Plant δ13C-temperature (δ-T) relation has been established in many systems and is often used as paleotemperature transfer function. However, it is still unclear about the exact contributions of temperature variation to plant 13C discrimination because of covariation between temperature and precipitation (aridity), which reduces confidence in reconstruction of paleoclimate. In this study, we mea...

Detecting Sustainability of Desertification Reversion: Vegetation Trend Analysis in Part of the Agro-Pastoral Transitional Zone in Inner Mongolia, China

Vegetation dynamics are an important topic in the field of global environment change, which is of great significance to monitor temporal–spatial variability of desertification at regional or global scales. Following the reported desertification reversion in the late 1990s in the Horqin Sandy Land, an issue was concerned for desertification control by decreased water availability. To detect the ...

The drought risk of maize in the farming–pastoral ecotone in Northern China based on physical vulnerability assessment

Climate change is affecting every aspect of human activities, especially the agriculture. In China, extreme drought events caused by climate change have posed a great threat to food safety. In this work we aimed to study the drought risk of maize in the farming–pastoral ecotone in Northern China based on physical vulnerability assessment. The physical vulnerability curve was constructed from th...

Response of Vegetation and Soil Carbon and Nitrogen Storage to Grazing Intensity in Semi-Arid Grasslands in the Agro-Pastoral Zone of Northern China

Overgrazing has been the primary cause of grassland degradation in the semi-arid grasslands of the agro-pastoral transition zone in northern China. However, there has been little evidence regarding grazing intensity impacts on vegetation change and soil C and N dynamics in this region. This paper reports the effects of four grazing intensities namely un-grazed (UG), lightly grazed (LG), moderat...
